Job description

Job Definition The City of Superior Police Department, along with the Superior School District, is looking for part-time Adult School Crossing Guards to help children safely cross the street as they walk and bike to and from school. HOURS: 7:45 AM - 8:45 AM AND 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM (Current part-time position available) LOCATION: Crossing Guards are needed at these corners: 18th Street & Wyoming Avenue 21st Street & Hammond Avenue 28th Street & Hammond Avenue 18th Street & 8th Avenue East DEFINITION: The Crossing Guard is a non-union non-benefitted part-time position responsible for assisting children and other citizens in the crossing of the street to and from the school grounds immediately before and immediately after school hours. There are 9 sites within the City where crossing guards are used.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Crossing Guard job class is characterized by the specific tasks of assisting with traffic and the crossing of the street at school locations. Employment Standards TYPICAL TASKS: 1. Report promptly for duty at the assigned time and location.

2. Assist children and other citizens in crossing the street to and from the school ground. 3.

Warn traffic of the presence of children crossing, or in and about the street. 4. Independently perform duties and responsibilities and reports directly to the Police Lieutenant or in his absence the Shift Commander.

5. Report to the Police Department any traffic violations observed at the duty location, giving a description of the vehicle and driver whenever possible. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledges: Some knowledge of laws effecting pedestrian and school crossing activities.

Ability to: Control traffic at a school crossing location; Assist children and other citizens in crossing the street; Warn traffic of the presence of children; Identify vehicles and give descriptions of vehicles and drivers; Establish and maintain effective relationship with school children, school officials and the public; Work in adverse weather conditions; See lettering the size of that found on a license plate; Hear sounds related to traffic safety. Requirements/Special Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and abilities would be: No experience is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Residency Requirement: No residency requirement. Background Investigation Requirement: Must pass a background investigation related to the position prior to hire.

Post Job Offer Medical Examination Requirement: Must pass pre-employment drug screen. This position is covered by the City's Blood borne Pathogen Program.
