Job description

School Crossing Guard

To provide school children with safe movement to and from school at intersections of public roadways nearest the school to which the guard is assigned. This position will work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. when school is in operation.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
  • Practical knowledge of street traffic in school zones.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions and other documents related to the specific assignment.
  • Experience communicating and working with children.
  • Assist school age children with crossing the street at designated crosswalks across various schools through out the City of Elizabeth City.
  • Report to post every school day before and after school hours.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
Education And Experience & Special Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to deal with children, pass moral and criminal investigation, and have transportation to and from assigned post. Must be available to work a flexible schedule with rotating hours. Uniforms will be furnished. Ability to complete school crossing guard training.
