Job Description: Our client, a leading healthcare organization in Houston, TX, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) IIB for their Operating Room Services. The RN IIB is a licensed staff nurse who functions at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner's clinical practice model, providing professional nursing care to a diverse patient population. The RN IIB position provides direct patient care effectively and efficiently, including patients with varied and complex needs, and communicates and collaborates with the physicians and interprofessional health care team to facilitate, coordinate, and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achievement of desired treatment outcomes.
Responsibilities:
  • Uses therapeutic communication to establish a relationship with patients, families, and interprofessional health care teams to collaborate on the plan of care
  • Contributes to teamwork and fosters healthy relationships in the work environment
  • Implements staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes; coaches and mentors other staff and students
  • Follows patient and family-centered care standards, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, and maintenance of medical records
  • Develops, updates, and communicates the plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family, and interprofessional health care team, using the nursing process
  • Provides patient teaching based on learning needs, uses appropriate resources, consistently evaluates the patient's comprehension, and adapts teaching methods accordingly
  • Follows the standards of care related to the nursing process and regulatory requirements, identifies areas of practice improvements with research-based evidence to achieve core measure and patient safety outcomes, and provides and modifies care to complex patients
  • Displays self-motivation to manage time effectively independently, timely document care, minimize incidental overtime, prioritize daily tasks, and contribute towards meeting department financial targets
  • Identifies and presents areas for innovation, efficiency, and improvement in patient care or unit operations using evidence-based practice literature and champions new care pathways or service line implementation to improve service to the community
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing
  • 1+ to 2 years of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment
  • Texas RN license or temporary TX RN license should obtain a permanent license within 90 days. Compact license acceptable according to current Board of Nursing requirements
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Other credentials and certifications as defined by unit/service line
  • American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC)-recognized certification in applicable specialty area preferred
  • Strong assessment, organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and role components, and ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, and patients and their families
