POSITION PURPOSE:

The primary function of the Registered Dietitian position is to promote health and nutrition that can be easily incorporated into the daily lives of our patients by creating a nutritional plan of care. It will require ongoing collaboration with the provider and clinical teams to educate patients about nutrition/dietetics, administering medical nutrition therapy services (MNT), and providing Diabetes Management (DM) as part of the health-care team.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy following standards of care set forth by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments based on patient medical history, lab values, dietary intake, and lifestyle factors and document efficiently, accurately, and appropriately in the EMR.
  • Develop individualized nutrition care plans and interventions tailored to the patient's diagnosis, preferences, and goals.
  • Provide one-on-one and group nutrition counseling for various conditions (e.g., diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, GI disorders, renal disease, eating disorders).
  • Instruct patients in diet principles and restrictions per physician diet order and accurately document pertinent information.
  • Maintain updated and necessary patient education materials and nutrition references and textbooks.
  • Educate patients and families on nutrition-related topics using evidence-based guidelines.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate materials and counseling techniques.
  • Participate in community outreach and wellness programs as applicable.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement the department's Nutritional Quality Assurance Program for value-based care and meeting UDS, CCO, and other measures for nutritional assessments.
  • Participate in the development of policies and programs directed toward patient and family education that include but are not limited to the patient education classes and a member in the patient education committee.
  • Participate in implementation educational programs and meet the mandatory in-service requirement in utilities management, infection control, safety and blood-borne pathogens that includes but is not limited to nutrition and dietetics.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care and improve patient outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or family and consumer sciences.
  • Completion of ACEND-accredited educational program.
  • Member of the American Dietetic Association with current Oregon state licensure as a Licensed Dietitian or be eligible within 3 months of hire.
  • Credentialed registered dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Experience in a hospital, clinical or public health setting.
  • Familiar with billing for medical nutritional therapy and diabetic management services.
  • Teaching experience in an individual and group setting and research experience is highly desired.
  • Possession of current BLS certification.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records highly preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently, having strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
