Job description

Why This Role Matters

The Director of FORTIFIED Roof will lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the resilience of roofing systems against severe weather events, particularly for residential properties. This role focuses on strategic oversight, program development, and engagement with stakeholders to promote and implement the FORTIFIED roofing standards, contributing to the Institute's mission of reducing property losses and advancing safety through science-based solutions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and oversee the implementation of the FORTIFIED Roof program, ensuring adherence to established standards and practices that enhance roofing resilience.

Collaborate with engineering teams, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to promote the adoption of FORTIFIED roofing standards across various regions and markets.

Conduct research and data analysis on roofing performance during natural disasters, using findings to inform program improvements and strategic initiatives.

Create and manage educational initiatives aimed at architects, builders, and homeowners to raise awareness of the benefits of FORTIFIED roofing.

Represent the Institute in industry forums, working groups, and conferences, advocating for policies and practices that support roof resilience.

Develop partnerships with insurers, building trades, and community organizations to expand the reach and impact of the FORTIFIED Roof program.

Oversee the evaluation and certification process of FORTIFIED Roof projects, ensuring compliance with program standards and quality assurance protocols.

Monitor trends in building codes, industry developments, and advancements in roofing technologies to keep the program at the forefront of resilience efforts.

Provide guidance and support to internal teams and external stakeholders regarding technical aspects of roofing systems and FORTIFIED standards.

Requirements

Education/Experience - Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the construction, engineering, or insurance industries, with a focus on roofing systems.

Knowledge - Strong understanding of roofing design, installation practices, and resilience strategies; familiarity with building codes and standards.

Leadership Skills - Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, cultivate relationships, and manage multiple stakeholders with diverse interests.

Communication Skills - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to varied audiences.

Strategic Thinking - Experience in developing and executing strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals and promote industry best practices.

Project Management - Strong project management abilities, with proven success in delivering initiatives on time and within budget.

Technical Proficiency - Proficiency in relevant software tools and applications used for project management and data analysis.

Professional Certification - Relevant professional certifications (e.g., AIA, LEED, or similar) are a plus.
