Job description

Senior Application Engineer, Software/Firmware (Embedded Linux)
Fully Remote | No Sponsorship Available

We are looking for a Senior Application Engineer, Software/Firmware to join a growing engineering team focused on embedded software integrations across complex hardware platforms. This role will serve as the technical bridge between internal engineering teams and OEM partners, owning software and firmware integration efforts from initial design through deployment.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with embedded Linux, BSP development, firmware integration, driver development, and system-level debugging. This is a highly collaborative role requiring someone who is comfortable working directly with hardware/software partners, troubleshooting complex issues, and building scalable integration processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner directly with OEM software and firmware teams to define software integration requirements and technical solutions
  • Adapt and integrate embedded software stacks across different hardware platforms
  • Develop and modify OS-level and firmware components, including Linux BSPs, drivers, and embedded services
  • Debug and resolve complex integration issues using embedded development tools, debuggers, tracing, and profiling utilities
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and troubleshooting sessions with engineering partners
  • Own end-to-end software integration efforts from kickoff through validation, release, and deployment
  • Build and maintain validation frameworks, test plans, configuration tools, and integration documentation
  • Create automation tools and processes to improve software testing, deployment, and system validation
  • Collaborate with core engineering teams to translate partner feedback into product improvements
  • Track integration progress, risks, and technical challenges while driving solutions independently

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of hands-on embedded software and firmware development experience
  • Strong experience with embedded Linux, including BSP bring-up, driver development, and kernel-level debugging
  • Proficiency in C or C++ for embedded development
  • Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for automation and tooling
  • Experience working with embedded development tools such as JTAG, GDB, tracing, profiling, and debugging utilities
  • Experience integrating software across multiple hardware platforms or OEM/vendor environments
  • Strong understanding of system-level troubleshooting and hardware/software interactions
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with engineering teams and external partners
  • Comfortable owning complex technical problems independently from investigation through resolution

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Yocto-based OS customization or embedded BSP development
  • Experience with RTOS environments
  • Familiarity with gRPC, Protobuf, REST APIs, or embedded communication protocols
  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus or Grafana
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Field Application Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Partner Engineer

Additional Details:

  • Fully remote opportunity within the United States
  • Preference for candidates located near the Bay Area, CA
  • Some travel may be required for partner visits and team meetings
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position
