However, some positions may require on-site presence for equipment handling or lab work, so job requirements should be reviewed carefully.

What are good projects for biomedical engineering students?

Biomedical engineering students can pursue projects such as designing medical devices, developing tissue engineering models, or creating software for health data analysis. These projects help build skills in CAD tools, programming, and understanding biological systems, which are valuable for future roles in research or industry.

Where can I work if I study temporary remote biomedical engineering students?

Temporary remote biomedical engineering students can find work with healthcare technology companies, research institutions, or medical device firms that offer remote internships or part-time roles. Here, you're known by name, supported as a whole person, and encouraged to bring your authentic self to work with competitive benefits, and the flexibility to support life both inside and outside of work.

We're proud to be a 2025 and 2026 Best Place to Work in St. Louis and a woman-owned, minority-owned boutique firm, delivering impactful engineering solutions in a workplace where people feel valued and empowered to grow.

Why You'll Love LUZCO

  • A culture that gives back: We're passionate about our communities. Every year, we dedicate paid time off for volunteering and encourage our team to use their talents to make a difference whether that's mentoring students, serving local nonprofits, or getting hands-on in community projects.
  • A workplace that feels like you: We keep things relaxed and welcoming. Expect weekly happy hours, team lunches, a stocked kitchen, dogs in the office, and a casual dress code. It's a space where you can be yourself and do your best work.

The Role

We're looking for a seasoned Senior Physical Substation Engineer with extensive experience in high-voltage substation design (69kV-345kV). This is a senior-level, execution-focused role ideal for someone ready to take ownership and deliver results from day one.

You'll lead design efforts, guide project execution, and mentor junior engineers, all while collaborating closely with internal teams. This position is fully on-site and requires daily interaction with engineers, drafters, and project leads. Remote or hybrid work is not available

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Lead the design of high-voltage substations, including layouts, equipment plans, grounding, conduit routing, and cable schedules.
  • Own design packages from concept through IFC, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
  • Use Bluebeam Revu to create and review markups, working closely with drafting teams to maintain high standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Protection & Control, Drafting, Project Management) to align efforts and meet deadlines.
  • Act as a technical resource, troubleshooting issues, performing QA/QC, and supporting junior engineers.
  • Interface directly with utility clients to clarify scope, resolve design challenges, and build strong relationships.
  • Contribute to project scoping, estimating, and proposal development as needed.
  • Travel up to 25% may be required.
  • Step in to support other roles or responsibilities when needed.

Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Familia

Essentials to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • PE license preferred, or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • At least 8 years of experience in physical substation design, with a track record of leading full design efforts and working directly with clients.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for design collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of NESC, IEEE, NEC, and utility standards.
  • Proven ability to manage scope independently and deliver high-quality, constructible designs on time.

Ready to Make an Impact? We know you might not check every single box on the job description-and that's totally fine. At LUZCO, we care about potential, collaboration, and diverse perspectives. If you're passionate about joining a supportive and innovative team, we encourage you to apply and show us what you can bring to the familia.
