Summary
Radiologic Technologist 1 is responsible for use of radiological equipment in diagnostic examinations in a clinic, emergency room or main hospital laboratory area. A related responsibility is for assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures. Employees in this classification operate stationary and mobile x-ray equipment for diagnostic purposes, taking chest, body section, and other radiographs.
Responsibilities
Produces radiographs of chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other areas by use of x-ray equipment in an emergency room, clinic or hospital area in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a sensitivity to the patient's age-specific needs. Positions patients and takes required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations. Adjusts equipment at appropriate angles and heights and positions patients appropriately for x-ray examinations. Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed age-specific safety standards. Computes technical factors, on an individual patient basis, to produce radiographs of proper detail, density and contrast to ensure good quality control. Transports patients to and from appropriate holding areas or other assigned areas. Operates portable x-ray equipment, as assigned, performing chest or other examinations that must be completed at the bedside. Provides and uses immobilization devices as required, while adhering to safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patient. Assists radiologists or other medical specialists during fluoroscopy. Assists physicians in administering contrast materials. Maintains safety standards. Assists supervisors in demonstration of techniques to radiologic technology students. Copies pertinent clinical information from Medical Record to radiology request form. Utilizes appropriate HIS Computer System functions and follows through to record complete or incomplete procedure. Performs selected procedures in other areas of the radiology department when requested. Rotates within department, as required. Receives on-the-job training in specialized technical areas and attends department in-service programs to learn the use of new equipment and/or advanced techniques. Follows appropriate infection control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions. Responsible for appearance of assigned radiographic room and cleaning of equipment and accessories. Performs basic duties in patient care, and initiates life supporting measures for patients, if necessary. Complies with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures. Possesses and maintains understanding of the principles of growth and development as they pertain to patients in all age populations. Assists registration as needed with assigned duties (quick registering, welcoming patients and bringing patients to treatment area). Attends minimum of 80% of scheduled staff meetings. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
Associate's degree in Radiology Technology is required. Any Employee who will be performing Point of Care and testing in the Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology areas, the educational degree must be verified at the time of hire. Minimum education level required to be verified is Associate's degree.

Credentials
Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required. Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019. Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification. Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Environmental Conditions - Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
