The work hours for this position are 8:00am - 5:00pm EST. While working in person at our offices in Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston-Salem NC is encouraged, remote work is an option.

The Office of Informatics' DIVE team (Data, Integration, Visualization, Evaluation) is seeking a Programmer skilled in artificial intelligence techniques such as machine learning and natural language processing. The DIVE team applies data science and informatics techniques to data problems arising in all facets of the academic enterprise, from education to research to strategic initiatives. This role will aim to drive growth and maintenance of education/research: data warehouses and analysis pipelines, academic applications, and the informatics components of strategic projects. With multiple strategic combinations drastically increasing the scope of data and services managed by Informatics, this position will help address the information needs of these increases and other changes associated with this rapid growth.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree with computer course and four years' experience in computer programming or operations research required; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience in computer programming. Experience with the installation and maintenance of personal computer
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Attend project and departmental meetings and contribute to the project design concerning data management needs
  • Collaborate with faculty, team leads, and stakeholders to anticipate, define, and satisfy data needs
  • Develop data preprocessing pipelines to ensure high-quality input for models and algorithms
  • Explore and integrate state-of-the-art techniques, including machine learning, natural language processing, expert systems, and automation, to address research challenges
  • Optimize and fine-tune existing models to improve accuracy, efficiency, and performance
  • Conduct thorough analyses and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of solutions and provide insights for further improvements
  • Document code, methodologies, and results for effective knowledge sharing
  • Performs other related duties as needed

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of artificial intelligence methods, usages, and performance evaluation, particularly machine learning models and natural language processing (NLP) data analysis
  • Proficiency in data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
