CNC Tool Maker & Prototype Machinist

Winooski, VT Full-Time Monday-Friday
$25.00 - $35.00 per hour (based on experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Tool Maker & Prototype Machinist to drive our tool room in machining complex prototypes, engineering custom fixtures, and maintaining the tooling that keeps our aerospace and precision production lines moving. This role balances immediate problem-solving with the execution of high-mix, advanced setups.

How You Will Contribute to Advancing Precision Manufacturing

Engineer Solutions: Take concepts from print to reality, machining precision tooling, fixtures, and rapid prototypes from high-temp alloys, steel, aluminum, and plastics.
Command the Tool Room: Set up and operate dedicated tool room equipment, including manual and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and presses to hold critical tolerances.
Innovate Setups: Tackle complex tooling challenges, designing and machining the custom fixtures and dies that enable our production floor to achieve strict aerospace tolerances.
Bridge the Gap: Work cross-functionally with engineering to integrate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, refine tooling designs in SolidWorks, and optimize toolpaths in Mastercam.

Drive Quality: Execute advanced precision inspections using micrometers, height gauges, and strict GD&T standards, ensuring processes meet performance requirements.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years of high-level manual and CNC machining experience in a tool room, prototype, or high-mix environment.
Proven proficiency in Mastercam and SolidWorks.
Expert-level blueprint reading, deep understanding of GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
Strong problem-solver balancing immediate execution with process optimization.

Above and Beyond Qualifications

Prior experience in aerospace manufacturing or working within AS9100 quality systems preferred.
Track record of mentoring junior machinists or leading tooling projects from scratch.
Experience designing and building automated workholding solutions.
