On a temporary basis and as part of a team, assist 4-H staff with 4-H summer programming, Ontario County Fair and may assist with 4-H recruitment.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months volunteer or work experience working with youth participants of all ages.
  • Must be dependable, flexible, and organized.
  • Must be a team player and work with a variety of CCE educators.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to frequently work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college experience preferred.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery - 80 %
  • Assist the 4-H Staff in carrying out daily program activities including educational programming (STEM/STEAM, Animal Science, Life Skills, etc.).
  • Immediately report emergency situations to 4-H Program Leader.
  • Assist 4-H Staff with delivering programs.
  • Assist with all activities related to the Ontario County Fair, including cleaning, and preparing the 4-H building for exhibits, recordkeeping at animal shows, interacting with the general public, supporting volunteers, fair data input, and helping with judging day.
  • Assist 4-H staff and/or Supervisor with various 4H program events.
  • Be a positive role model to youth participants.
  • Frequently travels, transporting self and materials and delivers programs utilizing established approved curriculum at locations based on program need.

Administrative Responsibilities:
Coordination/Operation - 15 %
  • May assist Supervisor with 4-H program participant and volunteer recruitment.

Professional Improvement - 5%
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner.

Position Details
