Job description

Deputy Clerk
Athens County Municipal Court

The Athens County Municipal Court seeks applications for the position of Deputy Clerk. This role is responsible for performing clerical and administrative duties to ensure the efficient operation of the Athens County Municipal Court. This position involves significant interaction with the public, processing legal documents, and maintaining accurate court records. This is a full-time position directly appointed by the Judge and is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The pay rate is $15.37- $19.32 per hour. The position may also be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). This position is on-site and remote work is not available for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer phone calls and respond to email inquiries or forward them to the appropriate department.
  • Assist individuals at the window and process payments.
  • Enter traffic and criminal tickets into the court system.
  • Process criminal and traffic mail, diversion information, sealings, and expungements.
  • Manage license forfeitures, warrants, and Temporary Protection Orders (TPOs).
  • Prepare and send past-due letters and update spreadsheets for collections.
  • Post mail and handle weekly trips to the post office for Certificate of Mailings.
  • Process attorney filings and set up video calls for prisoners as needed.
  • Assist other Deputy Clerks and the Chief Deputy Clerk with pre-trials and other court proceedings.
  • Perform banking duties when assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in a clerical or administrative role preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in office software and the ability to learn court management systems.
  • Capability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Completion of a background check post-offer.
