Position Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: Yorba Linda, California (On-Site)

Assignment Type: Temporary (6–8 months, maternity leave coverage)

Compensation: $30.00 – $32.00 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexible start times between 7:00 AM–8:30 AM)

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support a high-volume, multi-entity organization on a temporary basis covering a maternity leave. This role is responsible for full-cycle weekly payroll processing in a unionized, construction-related environment and requires strong experience with compliance-driven payroll practices.

The Payroll Specialist will process payroll for approximately 200+ employees, ensuring accuracy in time entry, job costing, and wage calculations. This role requires hands-on work with paper timesheets, detailed data entry, and coordination with internal teams to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.

This position will begin prior to the leave period to allow for training and shadowing and will continue through the coverage period into 2027 as needed, supporting multiple business units during the second phase of coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 210 employees accurately and on schedule
  • Review and enter payroll data from paper timesheets, ensuring correct hours, job codes, and cost allocations
  • Calculate and administer union fringe benefits and related weekly reporting using Excel
  • Ensure compliance with union agreements, prevailing wage requirements, and internal policies
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation
  • Partner with accounting and HR teams to support payroll reporting and audits
  • Utilize payroll systems such as Miter (or similar platforms like Paychex)
  • Work within a Sage Intacct environment for accounting and reporting integration
  • Assist HR with onboarding, background checks, and related administrative tasks during extended coverage period

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of payroll experience in a construction or project-based environment
  • Strong experience processing union payroll required
  • Proven experience with prevailing wage compliance required
  • Experience calculating and managing fringe benefits required
  • Proficiency with payroll systems such as Miter, Paychex, or similar platforms
  • Experience working within ERP systems such as Sage Intacct preferred
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to manage calculations and reporting
  • High attention to detail with ability to manage weekly deadlines
  • Experience working in high-volume, paper-timesheet environments
  • Strong understanding of union contracts, wage determinations, and payroll compliance

Highly detail-oriented with strong time management skills. The ideal candidate is approachable, team-oriented, and able to communicate effectively across departments while maintaining accuracy under tight weekly deadlines.
