Job Summary

The Part-Time Facility Attendant supports the maintenance and operation of Town of Ajax facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning, minor repairs, equipment upkeep, and room setups for meetings and events. The role also involves monitoring the building after hours, assisting visitors, responding to inquiries, and securing the facility.

Job Duties Include

The responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring a clean and safe building by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning, emptying garbage and ensuring entrances/exits are clear of snow.

  • Ensures the security of the building by locking exterior doors as required.

  • Consulting with staff to ensure that the meeting rooms and/or permit set up is appropriate.

  • Performs room set-up and take down of tables and chairs for meetings and assists staff during meetings.

  • Minor building related equipment repairs.

  • Problem solving and repairing minor issues.

  • Responding to customer and staff concerns.

  • Answering general inquiries and assisting members of the public, providing wayfinding and monitoring building access.

  • Take appropriate action in case of emergency - fire, medical disturbances and inform the appropriate staff, fill out accident/incident forms as required.

  • Securing the building using access control software.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum High School diploma.

  • One (1) year of related experience in general building maintenance, cleaning, equipment repair, and customer service.

  • Current certification in CPR/AED (Level C) and Emergency First Aid.

  • Excellent customer Service skills.

  • Working at heights and lift certification would be an asset.

  • Valid WHIMIS certification.

  • Must be willing/able to do physically demanding work as required (light cleaning, lifting, dragging, carrying boxes, etc.).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Valid class G Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.

  • Ability to provide upon hire a current criminal record check that is satisfactory to the Town.

What is offered to staff

  • Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.

  • Duration of Contract: This is a temporary contract that is expected to be 12 months in duration.

  • Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works 24 hours per week. The incumbent must be available to work shifts Monday through Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with the understanding that hours may be adjusted as operational needs change. The position will be assigned to different Town locations as needed to provide coverage during staff absences. The incumbent will be required to work some weekends and holidays.
