Why Join Acera?

Acera is a progressive, independent school serving gifted students ages 5 to 15. Students explore and learn at a pace appropriate to each child’s unique motivation and potential—not simply according to age. Our culture is not about pressure to achieve; it is about freedom to thrive.

Become part of a vibrant community where 93% of students report that they like or love coming to school each day. We support students’ innate curiosity and love of learning while developing emotional intelligence, complex and creative thinking, systems awareness, and the capacity to make a positive difference in the world.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, onsite nursing care to students who become ill or injured during the school day.
  • Assess students’ physical and emotional conditions and determine appropriate interventions, referrals, or emergency responses.
  • Provide care for students with acute, chronic, and emergency health needs in accordance with individual healthcare plans and established school protocols.
  • Respond to allergic reactions and other medical emergencies, including administering medication when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including documentation of illnesses, injuries, medications, immunizations, physical examinations, and health plans.
  • Review student health forms and medical documentation to identify missing information or followup needs.
  • Review and implement physician care plans for students with lifethreatening allergies, chronic health conditions, or other significant medical needs.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding student illnesses, injuries, medications, and followup care.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and other staff members when health concerns may affect a student’s school experience.
  • Work with Acera’s consulting nurse and school leadership to implement the school’s health policies, procedures, standing orders, and medicationadministration protocols.
  • Maintain the security, organization, and appropriate storage of medications, firstaid materials, and health supplies.
  • Monitor healthoffice supplies and notify the appropriate administrator when additional materials are needed.
  • Serve as an onsite resource to faculty and staff regarding student health, allergies, emergency response, and other healthrelated concerns.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local studenthealth requirements, including requirements related to confidentiality and student medical records.
  • Communicate with local publichealth officials or healthcare providers when appropriate and authorized.
  • Accompany students on field trips when nursing support is needed.
  • Qualifications
  • Current Massachusetts RN or LPN license in good standing.
  • Current CPR and firstaid certification.
  • Experience in school nursing, pediatrics, family medicine, urgent care, or a related setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting children with allergies, chronic health conditions, medication needs, and emergency health plans.
  • Knowledge of student healthrecord confidentiality, including FERPA and relevant healthcare privacy requirements in a school setting.
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to urgent situations.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with school administrators and Acera’s consulting nurse.
  • A warm, flexible, and studentcentered approach.
  • Schedule and Duration

This is a temporary, full-time, on-site position lasting three months. The School Nurse will work Monday through Friday during regular school hours and must be available to provide nursing coverage throughout the student day. Specific daily hours will be discussed during the interview process.
