Job Description

This role focuses on preparing parts for industrial painting and coating processes in a large manufacturing environment. You will support lean and 6S initiatives, ensure parts meet quality specifications, and help maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work area while learning and applying a variety of paint preparation techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned Lean and 6S initiatives, including organizing, cleaning, and standardizing the work area.
  • Prepare parts for painting by wiping them down, sanding, and applying caulking where and if needed.
  • Use spray equipment, air wands, and related tools to remove debris and prepare surfaces for industrial paint and powder coating processes.
  • Verify that prepared parts meet company specifications and quality standards before moving them to the next stage.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the preparation process, identify discrepancies, and clearly communicate any problems to the appropriate personnel.
  • Recommend improvements to preparation procedures and workflows to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner and keep coworkers aware of any potential hazards in the work area.
  • Follow all Safety, Health, Environment, and Hazardous Waste rules, procedures, and responsibilities.
  • Practice good housekeeping at all times and actively seek opportunities for 6S improvements.
  • Support other projects and responsibilities as assigned at the company’s discretion.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with industrial painting or paint preparation in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience with paint prep activities such as sanding, wiping parts down, and basic surface preparation.
  • Ability to use spray guns, paint sprayers, or similar equipment for industrial painting processes.
  • Familiarity with working in or around paint booths and blasting or sandblasting operations.
  • Understanding of industrial paint, powder coat, and powder coating processes.
  • Ability to follow detailed specifications and quality standards when preparing parts.
  • Strong awareness of safety practices in an industrial environment, including safe handling of materials and equipment.
  • High levels of coachability and ownership, with a willingness to learn new techniques and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using an air wand to spray off parts is a plus but not required.
  • Auto body paint prep or industrial paint work is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Lean and 6S principles and practices.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and suggest practical enhancements.
  • Strong communication skills to report issues and discrepancies clearly.
  • Dependable work habits and a proactive approach to maintaining a clean, organized work area.
