Job description

Job Title: Packaging Coordinator

Classification: Hourly

Reports To: Operations Manager (Dotted Line Production Supervisor)

Department: Mailer Production   

Shift: 3PM-11PM (Monday-Friday) 

Summary of Job

Under the direction of the Operations Manager the Packaging Coordinator role oversees hourly and temporary employee team coordination, quality control, and adherence to operational procedures within the packaging area. Key responsibilities include verifying SAP materials, monitoring product quality, ensuring compliance with SOPs, and addressing any non-conformance issues.

The Packaging Coordinator coordinates job rotations, supervises break scheduling, and delegates overtime fairly, while maintaining open communication with Supervision, Human Resources and team members to optimize production flow. This position requires strong organizational and troubleshooting skills, with an emphasis on quality, customer satisfaction, and safety compliance. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, ensuring continuous improvement. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Verify that all SAP materials are correct and accounted for on all jobs based on the envelope format being produced and as instructed by the line operator.
  • Monitor all jobs for manufacturing defects and report any non-conformance issues.
  • Monitor packaging for SOP defects. Corrects and reports all non-conformance issues.        
  • Coordinates and monitors efforts of all packers around Quality monitoring, QC testing, and hourly pulls.
  • Monitor and give directions to material packers in cooperation with supervision.
  • See that all shifts monitor and coordinate required job rotations of material packers ensuring rotations at a minimum of every 30 minutes.
  • Work with supervision and Quality Assurance to monitor and ensure break times are completed fairly and appropriately according to Pregis employee handbook. Breaks should be handled in a fashion that does not hinder production or put undue burden on other employees. 
  • Work with supervision and around manning schedules and overtime allocations. Ensure that overtime is delegated equitably and fairly.
  • Print labels when needed and maintain pallet flags as required.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with supervision and other employees to minimize delays.
  • Update upcoming shift so information is passed on accurately.
  • Assist in temporary onboarding, paperwork and timekeeping procedures under the direction of Human Resources.
  • Execute safety training for all new employees (including temporary employees) complying with all Pregis safety standards. Acts as a Safety Mentor under the guidance of the Quality & Safety Manager.
  • Is the liaison between Pregis and partnered staffing agencies to ensure a straight line of communication with workforce administration.
  • Facilitate training for all new material packers, QC’s and packer leads in accordance with our training matrix.
  • Comply and see that packaging employees comply with ALL standard operational procedures.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
  • Assist in creating an environment of improved performance with attention to quality and concern for customer satisfaction. Strive for continuous improvement
