Job description

ROADWAY ENGINEER

CAP Engineering, Inc. is seeking the immediate hire of a Roadway Engineer needed for the planning, designing, and supervision of road and highway projects. The candidate will oversee assisting with various civil engineering tasks in support of our transportation services division and will have the opportunity to be a key contributor to major transportation projects.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

  • Assign, track, and review tasks of technicians, designers, and engineers, ensuring adherence to project schedules; QC final work product.
  • Potential to serve as the Engineer-of-Record for mid-size and miscellaneous transportation designs.
  • Prepare engineering reports and contract documents for review; and perform independent peer reviews.
  • Review contract plans and calculations from other engineering teams and outside entities to verify completion and compliance with governing transportation design codes and contract plans and specifications.
  • Analyze and prepare roadway and Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCP) designs, calculations, and drawings for Expressway/Limited-Access facilities and Arterial/Local roads using DOT and/or local jurisdiction criteria, with guidance provided on complex matters.
  • Develop 3D Models of roadways, using Corridor Modeling in GEOPAK and/or Open Roads •
  • Approach tasks with a project mindset, including coordination with other disciplines throughout the project; propose innovative solutions to design problems with an understanding of project scope and goals
  • Effectively present proposed team design solutions as part of internal project meetings; attend and contribute to presentations with external parties
  • Adherence to company marketing requirements by providing timely personal resume updates, providing technical proposal support, and participating in marketing campaigns.
  • Ensure timely completion of timesheets, expense reports, and labor hours management.
  • Take ownership of personal and team member career development by seeking and providing feedback, seizing opportunities to develop and teach new skills, and setting and pursuing goals.
  • Contribute to the development of team members through mentorship and modeling positive behaviors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Transportation Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Minimum of 4+ years’ experience, with 3-5 years of progressive engineering design experience with emphasis on transportation engineering
  • Understanding and familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, and DOT Design Guidelines and Standards
  • Experience in maintenance of traffic and traffic control
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
