Minneapolis VAMC

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is an affiliated teaching hospital which serves as the tertiary referral center for the Veterans Integrated Service Network 23. It has 309 beds. The medical center provides primary, specialty, mental and behavioral health, and extended care and rehabilitative care to over 80,000 veteran patients. It has one of the largest education and training programs in the VA system. Are affiliated with the University of Minnesota Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. In conjunction with affiliations, residency-training programs exist in all of the medical, surgical, psychiatric, oral surgery and diagnostic specialties and subspecialties. The medical center has their own accredited hospital-based training programs for Radiology Technicians and Dental residents.

Service Location:

One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, Mn 55417 Position Overview: The Minneapolis VA Healthcare System (MVAHCS) requires services of an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to provide Oral/Maxillofacial care to eligible beneficiaries of the MVAHCS. He/she performs a full range of professional oral procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. The services required will include: outpatient clinic, consultative, surgical and non-surgical Oral/Maxillofacial procedures, and supervision and training of dental residents and dental students. Services shall be provided on-site for the Surgery and Specialty Care Patient Service Line (SSC-PSL) at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System. The candidate will provide the services of a practicing board-certified Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to provide Oral/Maxillofacial didactic and clinical components of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Dentistry General Practice Residency Program at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon will also participate in the development of a mission statement as well as have a role in formulating the Oral/Maxillofacial curriculum. The MVAHCS is an affiliated teaching center which provides comprehensive patient care to veterans. Supervision and education of Dental Residents and students are significant aspects and key requirements of this position.

Qualifications
  • Oral Surgeon(s) shall have a current license to practice Dentistry in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia)
  • Oral Surgeon(s) shall be Board Certified by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency.
