Pathologist Assistant

Location: Augusta, GA

Pay Rate: Starting at $58.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Dean's Professional Services is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathologist Assistant to support a fast-paced, high-volume surgical pathology department in Augusta, GA. This role is ideal for professionals experienced in complex specimen grossing who are passionate about accuracy, quality, and supporting diagnostic excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and dissection of routine and complex surgical specimens, including large organ specimens, for histologic processing
  • Ensure accurate specimen identification, description, and documentation in accordance with laboratory protocols
  • Collaborate directly with pathologists regarding specimen handling and grossing procedures
  • Support daily operations of the surgical pathology lab, ensuring workflow efficiency and quality standards
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to grossing technicians, students, and lab staff
  • Assist with onboarding, competency assessments, and quality control processes for new hires
  • Participate in quality assurance, regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP), and performance improvement initiatives
  • Troubleshoot specimen or workflow issues and escalate concerns when necessary
  • Maintain compliance with all safety, infection control, and laboratory policies
  • Assist with non-gynecologic specimen preparation, including FNAs and cytology processes as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred)
  • Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologist Assistant program required
  • Eligible to perform gross examinations per CLIA guidelines
  • Minimum 1 year of surgical pathology grossing experience preferred, including complex specimens
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, histology processes, and regulatory standards
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a clinical environment
