Job description

Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed deep-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include the V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, Hivemind Enterprise, and the Hivemind Vision product lines. With offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific, Shield AI's technology actively supports operations worldwide. For more information, visit www.shield.ai. Job Description:
Cloud Engineering builds and operates the infrastructure and environments that support Hivemind.
As a Senior Staff Cloud Network Engineer, you will lead the design and evolution of the network systems that connect Hivemind environments across cloud, on-premise, and constrained runtime environments. You will partner with engineering, program, and infrastructure stakeholders to define how systems communicate: establishing routing, network segmentation, and connectivity models that ensure secure and predictable operation.
This is a deeply technical, hands-on role focused on building and validating network systems. You will work with engineering, program, and adjacent infrastructure teams to implement and verify connectivity across cloud and isolated environments, including troubleshooting routing, segmentation, and traffic behavior in constrained or mission-critical systems.
What you'll do:
  • Lead the design of network systems that span both cloud and isolated environments, ensuring consistent connectivity and behavior.
  • Design networking for containerized systems to support inter-service communication and service discovery
  • Partner with Enterprise Ops to design and implement routing and firewall policies across shared network boundaries
  • Establish and improve network observability and debugging
  • Partner with Cybersecurity and Infosec to design connectivity and access boundaries that meet regulatory and compliance needs
  • Identify and resolve systemic issues affecting reliability, latency, and scalability
  • Mentor engineers and drive adoption of strong network design and debugging practices through hands-on guidance and review

Required qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in network engineering, infrastructure engineering, or related fields
  • Experience designing and operating network systems across cloud and non-cloud environments
  • Deep understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, segmentation, and traffic control
  • Experience with cloud networking using infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
  • Experience designing networking for containerized or distributed systems
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues across systems
  • Experience working across team boundaries to design and implement network solutions
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and operating systems in regulated or compliance-driven environments
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience building network systems used across multiple teams or environments
  • Experience working with isolated or high-security environments
  • Familiarity with data center fabric architectures (e.g., EVPN/VXLAN, spine-leaf)
  • Experience with Kubernetes networking and service connectivity models
  • Experience with traditional and cloud-native firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto Networks, AWS WAF)

$180,000 - $270,000 a year
