Job description

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER / PROJECT MANAGER
Data Center Program • Manassas, VA • Direct Hire, Full-Time
DEPARTMENT
Data Center Program - Mission-Critical Construction
LOCATION - ON-SITE POLICY
Manassas, VA (Multiple Sites) - Fully On-Site. This role requires a daily physical presence within active hyperscale data center facilities. Remote work is not available.
ROLE TYPE
Direct Hire, Full-Time | 50 hours/week | Straight-time compensation
ABOUT OUR CLIENT
Our client is a fast-growing engineering and construction services firm supporting large-scale infrastructure modernization programs across the United States. Specializing in mission-critical environments, the company partners with some of the world's leading technology organizations to deliver complex retrofit and capital improvement projects inside live, operational facilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is not a traditional construction manager role. As a hybrid CM/PM embedded within an active hyperscale data center campus, you will serve as the single point of accountability for both field execution and project administration on behalf of our client and their prime contractor partner. From morning stand-ups to executive status reports, you will own the full lifecycle of daily operations-coordinating contractors, tracking schedules, enforcing safety compliance, and representing the program directly to the end client's engineering and operations leadership.
Success in this role means operating as a polished, proactive, customer-facing leader who thrives in structured, documentation-heavy environments. You will balance competing priorities across multiple stakeholders simultaneously, identify and resolve risks before they escalate, and serve as the trusted face of the program onsite. Every day will look different-you may be reviewing MOP documentation in the morning and walking the floor with an AWS project team in the afternoon.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead daily construction activities within active, mission-critical data center facilities.
• Manage project schedules and milestones across multiple concurrent work streams.
• Coordinate and drive accountability among contractors, vendors, client representatives, and internal stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary on-site representative for both Inertial Labs and Amentum.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with AWS project teams and facility operations staff.
• Review, execute, and ensure compliance with Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation.
• Identify and resolve project risks proactively-before issues require escalation.
• Monitor and enforce safety compliance and field execution quality across all active scopes.
• Own project reporting, status updates, and program documentation.
• Support retrofit and modernization efforts across multiple data center sites simultaneously.
• Communicate project status, risks, and milestones clearly to customer and leadership stakeholders.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
• Proven experience in Construction Management, Project Management, or equivalent field leadership roles.
• Prior experience in mission-critical environments such as data centers, power plants, airports, hospitals, or major industrial facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage both field execution and administrative/project management responsibilities simultaneously.
• Strong customer-facing communication skills-written, verbal, and in formal reporting contexts.
• Proven leadership presence and a natural ownership mentality.
• High proficiency with technology platforms and project management software.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a highly governed program environment.
• Comfort with documentation-heavy processes including approvals, MOPs, and status reporting.
NICE-TO-HAVES
• Direct experience supporting hyperscale data center programs (AWS, Microsoft, Google, Meta, Oracle, QTS, Equinix, Digital Realty, or similar).
• Experience managing retrofit or brownfield construction projects inside live operational facilities.
• Working knowledge of critical power systems, commissioning processes, and data center infrastructure.
• Familiarity with scheduling and project management platforms including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, and/or Wrike.
• Background supporting mission-critical general contractors or commissioning and critical infrastructure programs.
EDUCATION
A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent field experience and a demonstrated track record of success in mission-critical environments will be considered in lieu of formal education.
PAY & BENEFITS SUMMARY
• 50-hour work week at straight-time pay (no overtime approved).
• Direct hire opportunity-not a contract or temporary position.
• relocation assistance available for candidates relocating to the Manassas, VA area.
• Company-provided PPE and equipment package including safety gear and branded apparel.
• Laptop bag provided.
• Approved boot reimbursement
