Position Summary
An NIH-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, for a self-motivated scientist to study the role of laminin-binding integrins in lung development, alveolar homeostasis, and alveolar repair. We utilize lung-specific transgenic mouse models along with ex vivo models, in vitro assays, transcriptomics, and proteomics to study the fundamental mechanisms whereby integrins and their ligands, basement membrane components collagen IV and laminin, regulate epithelial cell behavior in both health and disease. Highly motivated applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will benefit from both the outstanding environment in the lab and the highly collaborative UNC community. The candidate will be given opportunities to present his/her research work at national and international scientific meetings, work on translational and basic science research projects, and will be encouraged to apply to prestigious postdoctoral fellowships.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Position requires a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research and records findings. Analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner. Computer literacy including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Possesses ability to preform job duties as required.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment. Must be able to provide standard care to research animals.
