JOB SUMMARY
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders facilitate group study sessions, commonly called "SI sessions," to support student learning. This role requires instructional skills and the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of a group. SI Leaders actively plan and lead instructional activities during group tutoring sessions to enhance understanding and academic success.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct small-group tutoring sessions to support students' understanding of course material at all levels.
  • Apply a variety of teaching strategies, methods, and techniques to enhance learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Attend mandatory SI Leader training at the start of each semester.
  • Monitor students and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment during program activities.
  • Assist students in developing effective study skills and strategies.
  • Motivate and encourage students through positive feedback and reinforcement.
  • Foster a college-going culture by providing informal mentoring and guidance to students.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

EQUIPMENT
  • Perform tasks using personal computers and peripheral devices.
  • Operate and maintain (if applicable) office equipment such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners to support daily workflow.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend two weekly lecture classes for the courses they support (approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes per week).
  • Attend one weekly lab session (approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes per week).
  • Plan and lead two weekly SI group study sessions (approximately 2 hours per week).
  • Communicate clearly and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers and students to support learning.
  • Maintain familiarity with Banner software and community college practices (preferred).
  • Proficiency in use of Google Suite and Microsoft Suite.

JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
    • Diploma in progress is permissible.
  • Must have earned a grade of A in the relevant course being tutored.
  • Must be a current college student (college or university)
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.
  • Valid driver's license.

JOB LOCATION
This is an on-site position with the primary workplace in the Tutoring and Learning Center located in the Library Building at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee.
