  • Schedule: Full time (4x10s and 5x8s available), Day shift; on-call every 5th week

The Cardiac Cath Lab at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham provides expert cardiac care in an outpatient setting utilizing cutting-edge technology with three fully equipped cath labs and two non-invasive labs. We offer a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures, including procedures like heart catheterization and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), as well as advanced imaging techniques such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS, OCT) and functional assessments (FFR/iFR). As part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll work in an environment where your expertise can make a lasting impact


To assist the physician in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. To function in the roles of scrub assistant, monitor and circulator. To operate various
equipment utilized in the cath lab.

  • Admits and orients patient to cardiac cath lab according to pre-procedural checklist. Accurately enters patient information to database, hemodynamic and x-ray systems. Explains testing procedure to patient and/or significant others including exam to be performed, type of contrast media used, length of exam and equipment necessary to perform exam.
  • Functions as a scrub assistant; establishes and maintains sterile field according to department/institution policy. Follows all guidelines regarding infection control.
  • Functions in the role of monitor; operates EKG, x-ray and hemodynamic equipment to monitor changes in patient's blood pressure, heart rate, EKG and pulse oximetry during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Intervenes appropriately to changes in patient's physiological status.
  • Interacting with patient as to his/her comfort and safety, monitors patient vital signs and procedural documentation, sets up and maintains equipment and treatment room during diagnostic or therapeutic procedure, runs blood oximetry for cardiac output and assists physician with various diagnostic and mapping systems.
  • Operates various equipment used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including but not limited to, Hemodynamic monitoring, defibrillator, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), poser injector, stents, rotoblator, temporary pacemakers, TEC device, angiojet and x-ray in a safe and effective manner.
  • Observes all occupational and radiation safety regulations. Wears appropriate protective aprons, goggles and gloves.
  • Demonstrates a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth. Maintains all required certifications/licensures; completes all mandatory education requirements. Stays abreast of changes in technology.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations: 

  • Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within six (6) months from date of hire into classification.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and/or American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT).
  • Two years' experience in a cardiac catheterization lab or electrophysiology lab may substitute for
    licensure/certification/registration requirement.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. One year of experience preferred.
