Job description

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of LED lighting products and related mechanical systems. This role works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to ensure products meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, cost targets, and production efficiency goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for LED lighting products, including fixtures, housings, heat sinks, brackets, and mounting systems.

·       Create and maintain detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation using CAD software.

·       Perform thermal, structural, and mechanical analysis to optimize product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

·       Support new product development from concept through production launch.

·       Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate mechanical and electrical designs.

·       Evaluate and select materials, components, and manufacturing processes for LED products.

·       Develop prototypes and conduct testing to validate product performance and compliance requirements.

·       Investigate product failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

·       Work with Manufacturing to improve assembly processes, reduce costs, and increase production efficiency.

·       Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives.

·       Review and approve engineering change orders (ECOs) and maintain product revisions.

·       Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including UL, ETL, DLC, FCC, and other applicable regulations.

·       Coordinate with suppliers and vendors regarding tooling, components, and product improvements.

·       Provide technical support to Sales, Customer Service, Production, and Quality departments as needed.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.

·       Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience in manufacturing; LED lighting industry experience preferred.

·       Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar platforms.

·       Experience creating engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.


·       Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, extrusion design, injection molding, machining, and assembly processes.

·       Understanding of thermal management principles for LED products preferred.

·       Experience with product testing, validation, and root cause analysis.

·       Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience in LED lighting or electrical product manufacturing.

·       Knowledge of UL 1598, UL 8750, DLC, and LM-79/LM-80 testing standards.

·       Familiarity with ERP systems and engineering change management processes.

·       Experience with thermal simulation and FEA software.

·       Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

·       Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

·       Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.

Work Environment

This position operates in both office and manufacturing settings and may require occasional travel to customer sites, vendors, or industry events.
