Temporary Inmate Classification Specialist information

What is a temporary inmate classification specialist?

Temporary Inmate Classification Specialists are professionals who assess, categorize, and assign inmates to appropriate housing and program levels within correctional facilities on a short-term or contract basis. Their primary role is to evaluate inmates' backgrounds, security risks, and rehabilitation needs using established protocols and interviews. By accurately classifying inmates, they help maintain facility safety, manage population dynamics, and ensure inmates receive suitable programs and services. Temporary positions typically fill gaps due to staff shortages or increased workloads and may require flexibility in assignments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary inmate classification specialist?

To thrive as a Temporary Inmate Classification Specialist, you need a solid understanding of criminal justice procedures, inmate management, and risk assessment, typically supported by relevant education or experience in corrections or law enforcement. Familiarity with jail management software, classification systems, and documentation protocols is commonly required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective interpersonal communication are essential soft skills for accurately assessing inmates and collaborating with staff. These competencies are vital for ensuring the safety, security, and appropriate placement of inmates within correctional facilities.

What are some common challenges faced by a temporary inmate classification specialist, and how can they be addressed?

Temporary Inmate Classification Specialists often encounter challenges such as rapidly learning facility protocols, managing high caseloads, and making quick yet accurate classification decisions with limited background information. Adapting to a new team and understanding the specific needs of different inmates can also be demanding. These challenges can be addressed by seeking guidance from experienced colleagues, leveraging available training resources, and maintaining clear communication with correctional staff to ensure decisions promote both safety and rehabilitation.

Job description

Job Title: Seasonal Soy Bean Production Specialist

Job Description

The Seasonal Soy Bean Production Specialist supports a high-volume seed production facility during peak harvest and seed processing season. In this hands-on role, you operate and monitor seed cleaning, treatment, packaging, and shipping processes while maintaining strict safety, quality, and operational standards. You work within a warehouse environment and provide flexible support to a 24-hour production schedule, including day, evening, overnight, weekend, and overtime shifts as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor seed cleaning, treatment, and packaging equipment using plant software systems.
  • Support daily seed processing activities to achieve production, throughput, and quality goals.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities to maintain reliable operations.
  • Collect, record, and document quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) data in accordance with established procedures.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Assist with material handling, including seed receiving, storage, shipping, and packaging activities.
  • Work collaboratively with production team members and site leadership to maintain efficient and safe operations.
  • Maintain accurate production records and documentation for processing, inventory, and quality activities.
  • Perform general warehouse duties as assigned, including cleaning, organizing, and supporting overall facility readiness.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production and warehouse environment.
  • Basic computer skills to operate plant software systems and enter production or quality data.
  • Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 65 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work safely and productively in an active warehouse environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or vocational training in a relevant field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, agricultural, or production environments.
  • Interest in agriculture, biology, seed quality, or laboratory-related work.
  • Experience with SAP or other production tracking or enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Experience documenting production or quality data in compliance with established procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to support quality control activities and follow QA/QC processes.

Work Environment

This role is based in an active warehouse and seed production facility with ambient conditions; the facility is not climate controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, is required, and additional PPE such as hearing protection or respiratory protection may be needed depending on specific tasks. Long pants and sleeves may be required in designated work areas. The position supports a seasonal assignment aligned with harvest and seed processing operations. During peak season, the facility operates on a 24-hour production schedule, and you must be available for day, evening, and overnight shifts, as well as overtime, weekend, and holiday work as needed. Work schedules may change during the season based on operational needs, and initial assignments may start on a single shift before transitioning to multi-shift operations in October. The environment offers the opportunity to support a critical agricultural operation processing more than 3 million seed units annually, gain valuable manufacturing and warehouse experience, and contribute to food and agriculture innovation in a team-oriented setting.
