Job Title: Senior Business Systems Analyst
Work Setting: Remote

Position Overview
seeking a Senior Systems Analyst to support the transition of reporting and data-extract capabilities from legacy mainframe IMS systems to a modern cloud/data-lake environment.
This role is heavily focused on requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation, ensuring business reporting needs, data workflows, and downstream integrations are accurately captured and translated into functional and technical specifications.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience with enterprise IT environments, legacy systems, and modern data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed sessions with business stakeholders to understand:
    • Reporting requirements
    • Data extract workflows
    • Downstream data consumption needs
  • Document current-state processes, including:
    • Reporting logic
    • Data sources
    • Extract schedules
    • Dependencies within IMS/mainframe
  • Analyze gaps between legacy processes and future-state cloud/data-lake architecture
  • Translate business needs into clear functional & technical specifications
  • Validate requirements with stakeholders for accuracy and alignment
  • Coordinate and review:
    • Analysis artifacts
    • System designs
    • Process diagrams
    • Documentation
  • Provide technical guidance related to:
    • Reporting development
    • Data extracts
    • Integration processes
Essential Job Duties
  • Review and interpret mainframe IMS data structures, file layouts, and extract processes
  • Collaborate with data engineers/architects to map legacy data → cloud data models
  • Support design of cloud-based reporting & extract workflows
  • Define:
    • Data transformation rules
    • Metadata
    • Data lineage
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise data governance standards
  • Facilitate:
    • Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions
    • Stakeholder workshops/interviews
  • Elicit and document:
    • KPIs
    • Filters
    • Delivery cadence
  • Produce & maintain:
    • Data mappings
    • Business rules
    • Data dictionaries
    • Lineage/data-flow diagrams
  • Develop test cases & acceptance criteria
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT):
    • Validate data accuracy
    • Confirm report outputs
    • Verify extract completeness
  • Troubleshoot defects and coordinate resolutions
  • Communicate progress, risks, and issues to leadership
Minimum Requirements
Years Requirement Experience 6+ Required Systems Analyst / Business Analyst experience in medium-to-large IT environments 3+ Required Gathering & documenting requirements for reporting/data extracts 3+ Preferred Mainframe systems (IMS, COBOL, JCL, batch processes) 5+ Required Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint) 3+ Required Cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, etc.) 2+ Required Interpreting data models & technical documentation 2+ Required Database structures & theories 2+ Required Enterprise information/data management methodologies 2+ Required Working in fast-paced, evolving environments 2+ Required Strong interpersonal & stakeholder management skills

  • Knowledge of:
    • Data governance & PII regulations
    • Metadata / master data / reference data
    • Data warehousing & BI principles
  • Experience with data modernization / legacy migration projects
