I. JOB OVERVIEW

The Department of PA Studies of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences ( SMHS ) is seeking an Admissions Officer to support and contribute to the admissions cycles for the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medicine and Pre-PA program and the Physician Assistant Program reporting to the department’s Associate Director of Admissions. The mission of the Department is to provide exceptional education to clinicians of the future who represent and serve diverse communities through collaborative healthcare and leadership. This individual is expected to represent the programs at admissions fairs and provide accurate feedback to applicants interested in either program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides guidance through the application process to include: advises applicants on academic program offerings and requirements, responds accurately and in a timely manner to applicant questions and concerns regarding admissions policies, requirements and other related information, follows up on incomplete applications.
  • Performs initial applicant review of 2,600 PA program applications and 200 post-baccalaureate program applications (and their corresponding GW supplemental applications) to include: reviews applicant transcripts and other required documents to ensure admission requirements have been met, makes initial determination on eligibility, packages and sends the application for final review, enters and communicates admission decision.
  • Develops application distribution plan for admissions committee readers and tracks progress of screening completion. Reports results to Associate Director of Admissions for action planning.
  • Creates and maintains the interview schedules for both the PA program and PostBacc cycles. Troubleshoots if interviewers or candidates are unable to attend the sessions and creates alternative plans when needed.
  • Coordinates enrollment and recruitment activities to include: participates in or hosts information sessions, represents the university and programs at GW, local and regional recruitment opportunities, engages with prospective applicants through phone, email and other medium, develops content to attract prospective students, maintains our social media presence.
  • Tracks admitted students’ admission requirements post acceptance (background checks, drug screens, etc.).
  • Develops and maintains accurate admissions data throughout the cycle and provide just-in-time reports to program leadership for the purposes of ongoing evaluation of the admissions processes and accreditation monitoring.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are associated with supporting the Department’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
