The Fisher Island Club (FIC) is looking for a Head Golf Course Superintendent with strong agronomic and leadership skills with a passion for providing exceptional golfing conditions. The candidate will also possess strong landscaping experience and can lead and motivate staff to achieve goals and exceed member expectations. Experience with Paspalum Grass is a bonus; we recently completed an entire course renovation with Supreme Paspalum.


Job Description:

The Golf Course Head Superintendent reports to the Director of Golf. The Head Golf Course Superintendent will lead a team of approximately 20 staff members, along with overseeing third-party contractors, to ensure superb golf course conditioning on a daily basis. The Head Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the grounds and facility at the Golf Club.

Seeking a forward-thinking leader who is passionate about modern agronomy and embraces the rapidly evolving technology shaping todayโ€™s golf course industry. This individual thrives on continuous improvement, leveraging data-driven decision-making, precision turf management tools, and the latest research to deliver exceptional playing conditions and environmental stewardship.

As Head Golf Course Superintendent, you will champion innovation across all aspects of course operationsโ€”integrating new technologies, refining sustainable practices, and setting a high standard for excellence. Youโ€™ll cultivate a team culture built on curiosity, professional development, and knowledge-sharing, while actively mentoring current staff and attracting the next generation of turf grass professionals to the game.

Interface with the membership with personal interaction and communication via monthly newsletter and emails is vital. Working with a diverse workforce and demonstrating a commitment to growing the game of golf, along with a relentless attention to detail.


Candidate Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a Golf Course Superintendent or 1st Assistant of a top-tier club with a minimum of 5 years of experience in this position.


- Experience managing and controlling warm-season grasses maintained in Floridaโ€™s climate.

- Successful experience managing Paspalum grass preferred. FIC has 40 acres of Supreme Paspalum.

- Understanding of all pest control techniques.

- Experience in tree management, shrub, and native landscape.

- Solid irrigation management philosophy and practices.

- Strong agronomic skills and committed to the advancements in service and technology afforded to the industry.

- Highly organized to lead a diverse workforce.

- Experience in implementing capital budget plans.

- Experience in developing standard training programs and operating procedures.

- Working with all government and regulatory agencies

- Possess high ethical standards โ€“ sold work ethic and passion/commitment to the game of golf.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the golf course and surrounding areas in pristine championship conditions.
  • Ensures the successful integration of the golf course and Maintenance facility into the overall operations of the Club.
  • Displays leadership in guest hospitality, exemplifies excellent members satisfaction, and creates a positive atmosphere for others.
  • Maintain a daily management report outlining key facility statistics and a summary of daily operations.
  • Develops and maintains accurate facility maintenance procedures and checklists through routine preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Manages supply inventories and purchasing control, including uniforms.
  • Assess, design, maintain Club-area landscaping and direct/supervise associated staff.
  • Maintains a monthly inventory of supplies, equipment, and products.
  • Ensures compliance with all Club policies, standards, and procedures by training, supervising, and hands-on management.
  • Maintain a comprehensive standard facility operation manual, including written policies and procedures for all facility services, administration, and maintenance.
  • Creates a team of service providers to meet all aspects of professionalism and service standards.
  • Maintains a fully staffed facility by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training all staff.
  • Ensures the staff is fully knowledgeable on the use and benefits of services, products, programs, and activities by conducting regularly scheduled staff meetings and training workshops.
  • Assesses all employeesโ€™ progress continually, trains employees, leads employees with positive reinforcement, disciplines fairly and consistently, and completes annual performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with all state licensing and health requirements.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and updated records of staff, independent contractors, vendors, etc., including licenses, contracts, certificates of insurance, business licenses, etc.
  • Ensure budgetary and financial goals are attained, including expenses and labor management.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the completion of job duties related to matters of significance.
  • Complete all other tasks assigned to ensure operational excellence.


Education and Certification Qualifications:

A college degree in turf management or a related field of study. GCSAA Certification and Pesticide Certification are preferred. The ideal candidate will be a Golf Course Superintendent or 1st Assistant of a top-tier club with a minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ experience in this position.
