Job description

Contra Costa Country Club, located in Pleasant Hill, CA, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Full-Time Assistant Superintendent! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced hospitality-focused property organization. As part of Troon, you will contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.
This is an exciting time to join Contra Costa Country Club. The Club is in the final stages of a significant investment in its future, including a new short game practice facility and maintenance shop expansion, while continuing to invest in the golf course, equipment, and maintenance operation. We're looking for someone who wants to make that same investment in themselves.

Responsibilities & Professional Development
As Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you'll be entrusted with meaningful responsibility. Working alongside the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent, you'll play a key role in leading the operation while gaining the experience needed to become a future Golf Course Superintendent.
Responsibilities and development opportunities include:
• Take ownership of the daily planning, scheduling, and execution of golf course maintenance operations while leading, mentoring, and developing 25+ team members in a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Assist with irrigation management, fertilizer and pesticide applications, cultural practices, tournament preparation, and course setup.
• Work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent to develop and implement short- and long-term agronomic plans.
• Participate in Green Committee meetings
• Gain exposure to budgeting, capital planning, and strategic decision-making.
• Take ownership of projects and contribute ideas that improve course conditions and departmental operations.
• Attend local and national educational opportunities, conferences, and industry events.
• Receive mentorship and increasing responsibility designed to prepare you for the next step in your career.
Schedule & Expectations
This is a leadership position within a year-round golf course operation, and the schedule reflects the seasonal demands of the profession.
• Rotating weekend schedule with the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent.
• Summer months typically require 50-60 hours per week.
• During the remainder of the year, schedules generally average around 40 hours per week.
• Flexibility is expected during tournaments, special events, weather events, and periods of agronomic necessity.

Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $80,000-$95,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
• Experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Second Assistant Superintendent, Spray Technician, Foreman, or another golf course maintenance leadership role ready to take the next step.
• California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC), or the ability to obtain either within six months of hire.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Passion for developing people and producing exceptional playing conditions.
