About the Role

The Facility Maintenance Specialist oversees and executes general maintenance and repairs for all Food Bank facilities.

This position is a temporary-to-permanent role, with the opportunity for full-time employment based on performance during the first 90 days. Typical Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm | Monday - Friday


Responsibilities:

(100%) Facilitate organizational maintenance tasks.

  • Utilizing the Work Order tool and input from supervisor Manager, determine facility maintenance issues, and organize priorities.
  • Conduct work in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Work with lead warehouse staff, Facilities Maintenance Manager, and Operations Manager at each branch to ensure facilities and equipment are maintained in acceptable working order.
  • Work with Facilities Manager to decide appropriate vendors and negotiate costs and obtain written estimates when applicable.
  • Ensure all powered tool equipment is kept in good working order and accounted for, with operating instructions, and provide training for staff.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and Food Bank standard operating procedures. Ensure all hazardous materials are kept in appropriate storage, and any relevant SDS documentation is retrieved and filed appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school/GED required, Post high school education strongly preferred.
  • Must have strong mechanical aptitude/skills.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a facility specialist or technician in a combined warehouse and office setting.
  • Must have at least one year of experience working in one of the following disciplines: plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical
  • Strongly prefer certifications/licenses in one of the following disciplines: plumbing, HVAC, and electrical.
  • Must have a valid NC Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to operate a scissor lift.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a forklift certification.
  • Must believe in the mission of the organization

Work Environment:

Persons in this position may be subject to fluctuations in temperature due to the warehouse environment. The warehouse can be extremely cold at times and extremely hot during the summer months, with temperatures ranging from -10 degrees Fahrenheit to 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Environment includes administrative offices and applicable warehouse areas.
  • The employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles while completing projects in applicable warehouse areas.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to work in small and cramped spaces.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Environment also includes exposure to potentially dangerous chemical compounds and/or toxins used to clean the facility. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
  • The employee’s daily work may require doing repairs on a scissor lift, being 20 feet above the ground, and use of a ladder and accessing the roof.
  • Environment also includes exposure to weather when operating on roof or exterior of buildings.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and interact without deliberate impediment.
