Job description

ENSTAR is currently hiring for the summer season, with positions that typically run from May 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026.

What You Will Do:

As an Engineering Helper, you will play an essential role within our Anchorage Right of Way department, reporting to the Right of Way Supervisor. Under direct supervision, the Engineering Helper provides assistance and support to ENSTAR's Right of Way (ROW) department with regard to file maintenance, plat and letter of non-objection reviews, project permitting, and GIS data input. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize and document existing ROW & Permitting files, including paper file organization, scanning, and SharePoint updates.
  • Database and file entry: Organize and link project data to GIS system. Review project files to ensure all data is in place.
  • Assist with project permitting: prepare permit applications under direct supervision of the ROW Supervisor. This may include preparing project descriptions and permit-related drawings. May also include site visits to a proposed project to gather field information. Site visits may include flying.
  • Assist with permit compliance: Go on field site visits with the SWPPP coordinator to monitor construction progress and to ensure permitting compliance by field personnel. Gather information required to resolve issues encountered during construction. Site visits may include flying.
  • Assist with plat reviews and reviewing encroachment requests under direct supervision. This may include contact with the public and or various agencies requesting comments.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

What You Will Bring:

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, credit, past employment, and driving record screening.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management, staff, and the public; exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others in difficult circumstances or to resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of basic lands concepts, including legal descriptions, basic cartography, ability to read and understand plats, maps and surveys.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to prepare clear and understandable written documentation and communication materials.
  • Must have the ability to contribute in a team environment or independently.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records.
  • Good understanding of ENSTAR's policies, procedures and processes.
  • Good working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the ENSTAR such as GIS, MS Office, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations; detect unobvious facts and issues and exercise resourcefulness in resolving problems.
