Job description

Responsibilities
  • Primarily focused on geostructural design, including calculations and plan preparation. Geostructural design performed for ground improvement, retaining walls, temporary support of excavation, underpinning, temporary groundwater dewatering, slope stability and specialty deep foundations.
  • Assist with submittal reviews of contractor shop drawings, including vendor qualifications, materials, procedures, proof and verification tests, and other related construction documentation.
  • Prepare proposals, manage project budgets, and prepare change orders and invoices.
  • Host or attend project meetings with clients to follow up on delivered reports and provide technical solutions as necessary.
  • Other duties include assisting with or performing the following traditional geotechnical engineering responsibilities, with supervision:
    • Prepare AutoCAD drawings for engineering designs, geotechnical profiles and location plans
    • Prepare drilling packages and obtain utility clearances
    • Perform research on local geologic history, soils maps and geohazard mapping
    • Supervise field work performed by drilling/test pit crews and assist with rig access issues
    • Perform in-situ testing
    • May perform specialized geotechnical field testing
    • Classify soil/rock and assign laboratory testing
    • Mentor and support Staff Project Managers, Assistant Staff Project Managers, and technicians in their development

Qualifications
  • BS and/or MS in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geological Engineering, or similar.
  • Engineering-In-Training required, Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong technical aptitude and knowledge of geotechnical principles.
  • Basic knowledge of geotechnical-focused software, such as Lpile, GROUP, Rocscience Suite, MSEW, SNAIL
  • Experience with MathCAD, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing ASTM, AASHTO, and/or NCMA standards
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Business development experience.
  • If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required.
