Job description

General Information:

Job title: Medical/Surgical/eICU Supervisor

Schedule: 80 hours per pay period; Monday - Friday - 8:00am to 4:30pm

Weekend Requirement: No weekends

Holiday Requirement: Paid holidays

Position Summary:

The Medical/Surgical/eICU Supervisor supports daily departmental operations, clinical excellence, and staff development while assisting with direct patient care as needed. In collaboration with the Director of Medical/Surgical/eICU, this role helps oversee staff orientation, education, competency management, quality improvement initiatives, and policy compliance to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. This position also supports Swing Bed Program coordination and regulatory compliance activities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care support and assists staff as needed to ensure safe, high-quality patient care delivery
  • Demonstrates strong clinical judgment and the ability to respond decisively and provide leadership during emergency situations
  • Assists with orientation, onboarding, and training of new department staff
  • Supports policy, procedure, and competency management to ensure regulatory compliance and staff readiness
  • Researches and promotes evidence-based practices to support clinical excellence and patient outcomes
  • Assists with annual staff evaluations and ongoing performance feedback processes
  • Collaborates with the Department Director on day-to-day departmental operations and workflow management
  • Partners with leadership to support staff education, training, and competency development initiatives
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, including data collection and performance improvement projects
  • Assists with oversight of the Swing Bed Program, including referral management, MDS coordination, and compliance monitoring

Position Requirements:

  • Two-year degree in nursing required. Four-year degree preferred.
  • Must hold and maintain Wisconsin Registered Nurse license.
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire.
  • ACLS certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • 3+ years of clinical Nursing experience required.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
  • Excellent clinical skills and problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize effectively with staff, patients, and public.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with patients, co-workers, and supervisors is essential.
