Overview
Doyon Foundation was incorporated in 1989 as the private foundation for Doyon, Limited. Our mission is to provide educational, career and cultural opportunities to enhance the identity and quality of life for Doyon shareholders and descendants. Our work is focused in three main areas: scholarships, workforce development, and language revitalization. Our vision is to empower current and future generations by supporting education and career pathways, and to honor culture and language.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: 5 hours per week for a total of 60 hours during either the Spring or Fall semester. Work hours to be determined contingent on student schedule and within business hours of Monday-Friday, 8 am-12 pm, 1 pm-5 pm.
Salary: $18 per hour

Job Summary: The High School Intern will support the Doyon Foundation throughout the academic semester, gaining hands-on experience in general office operations, Workforce Development initiatives, and Language Revitalization programs. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director and the Language Revitalization Director, the intern will participate in guided learning activities and complete projects aligned with their interest and skills. This is a temporary, entry-level position designed to provide professional exposure and support student learning.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Perform general office support tasks, including greeting visitors, directing phone calls, taking messages, and sorting or distributing mail.
  • Assist with internal or community-based events supporting scholarships, workforce, or language programs, as available.
  • Support Workforce Development programs by engaging in a project relevant to the interns' interests, abilities, and desire for learning goals.
  • Support Language Revitalization efforts by contributing to a project relevant to the intern's interests, abilities, and learning goals
  • Maintain professionalism, follow instructions, and contribute positively to a team-oriented work environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Desire to learn about the cultural heritage of Doyon Shareholders.
  • Willing to learn soft skills that will support their employability.
  • Adaptable and able to work cooperatively with staff in an office setting.
  • Willing to ask questions to clarify/solidify understanding.
  • Ability to follow directions, communicate professionally, and represent the Doyon Foundation appropriately.

SKILLS INTERN WILL OBTAIN:
  • Knowledge of the cultural heritage of Doyon shareholders and the family of companies.
  • Knowledge of general office environment and operations.
  • Entry-level knowledge of programmatic and grant work.
  • General customer service and professional communication skills.
  • Entry-level soft skills such as timeliness, communication, and project completion.
  • Student will earn High School credits in accordance with their school's policy.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Doyon, Limited Shareholder or direct descendant (child).
  • High School Senior in good standing.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Supervision: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working Environment: Most of the work is performed in a professional office setting with people in various roles, with different functions, personalities, and abilities. The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying items weighing less than twenty-five pounds. This position may require attendance at local community events for outreach purposes yet will require no travel outside of Fairbanks North Star Borough. This position always requires supervision and will be closely supported by staff, with no independent work performed outside the office setting. This position will not be permitted to operate company vehicles.
Physical Demands: An individual will be required to work most hours in a general office environment and must be able to respond quickly to changes in demand. Therefore, occasional light lifting (1-25 lbs.) is required. [Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions].
