Job description

The Mobilization Center is hiring Juneau Canvassers to engage Alaskans on key conservation, human rights, government accountability, and democracy issues facing our communities.

Door Canvassers will work with the Juneau Field Manager and the Mobilization Center Chief Operations Officer to interact with Alaskans and maintain relationships with action-takers to sustain long-term support for critical campaigns. Conversations will take place door-to-door, at community events, and through other outreach methods as appropriate.

Our goal is to identify, engage, and activate Alaskan voters on campaigns that protect the resources that sustain our cultures and way of life, while maintaining the health and wellbeing of communities across the state.

Position Overview

This is an entry-level organizing position that provides career-building opportunities within the broader progressive movement. Canvassers will work directly with the Juneau Field Manager, Chief Operations Officer, and program staff to interact with Alaskans on key political and civic issues including, but not limited to, social justice, conservation, equal rights, and fair elections.

Typical work hours fall within 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with some weekend requirements. Schedules may shift depending on campaign needs. Canvassers will work with supervisors to develop a schedule that fits operational needs.

Additional hours, special events, and occasional travel to other locations in Alaska may be available depending on campaign priorities.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Compensation: Canvassers start at a base rate of $23/HR for administrative and databasing work; $28/HR for in person Door Canvassing and Event Support.

General Duties

  • Encourage participation in elections, legislative advocacy, and candidate support efforts
  • Engage with the public through door-to-door canvassing, phone outreach, and community events for the majority of your work schedule
  • Staff events and help mobilize volunteers to support campaigns and candidates
  • Encourage active public involvement in advocacy and civic engagement campaigns
  • Record accurate data and work with supervisors and teammates to ensure high-quality data entry and reporting
  • Follow procedures and policies outlined in The Mobilization Center Employee Manual and Employee Handbook
  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism are maintained at all times
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Juneau Field Manager or the Mobilization Center Chief Operations Officer

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience with or willingness to learn direct voter contact methods, such as canvassing, door knocking, phone banking, or public outreach
  • Have an interest in politics, civic engagement, conservation, and social justice
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Be comfortable with active listening and navigating challenging conversations respectfully
  • Be independent, accountable, and honest in their work
  • Be comfortable using technology and performing basic data entry

Employment Terms

This is a seasonal temporary position with guaranteed work through November 7, 2026.

Employment is voluntary and at-will, meaning employment may be terminated by the employee or The Mobilization Center at any time, with or without cause or notice.

This job description reflects responsibilities at the time of hire. The Mobilization Center reserves the right to modify duties as needed.

Employment may be contingent upon a background check and may include a trial period.
