Certified Medical Coder

Work Location: Remote / Telecommuter – TX950
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
Hours: Normal business hours; overtime may be required based on business needs
Pay: $18.00/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Certified Medical Coders to support accurate coding of professional services across multiple care settings, including outpatient and inpatient facilities.

The Medical Coder will review medical records, validate provider documentation, assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes, and ensure coding decisions comply with applicable federal, state, professional, and coding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review medical records and assign accurate diagnosis, procedure, and modifier codes.
  • Perform coding across outpatient and inpatient facilities.
  • Review provider documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Apply knowledge of diagnosis coding, procedural coding, evaluation and management services, and ancillary services.
  • Identify unclear or incomplete documentation and generate queries when additional information is needed.
  • Use coding software, reference materials, and coding resources to determine appropriate codes.
  • Apply relevant medical coding references and federal, state, and professional guidelines.
  • Meet established productivity, quality, and deadline expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of medical coding experience.
  • Current coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA, such as:
    • CPC
    • CPC-H
    • CPC-P
    • RHIT
    • RHIA
    • CCA
    • CCS
    • CCS-P

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong understanding of disease processes, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Ability to review and validate provider documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and meet productivity standards and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with medical record review and provider documentation validation.
  • Experience using eClinicalWorks Practice Management System (eCW).

This is a remote, full-time contract opportunity paying $18.00/hour.
