POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Spanish Immersion Substitute Teacher Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy
REPORTS TO: Principal and Assistant Principal
STATUS: Temporary; Hourly non-exempt
HOURS: As needed, on-call
LOCATION: Calvary Christian Academy, all campuses

Purpose Statement:
The Spanish Immersion substitute will work in the capacity for which they are hired. As a Spanish Immersion teacher assistant substitute, the individual will follow the lead of the teacher and fulfill all the tasks, which they are assigned. These could be clerical tasks, supervision tasks, and class coverage tasks as needed. As a Spanish Immersion substitute, the individual must take ownership of the assigned role so that students are always well supervised and well assisted as in the role of teacher assistant.
In the Spanish Immersion program, the classroom environment becomes the setting for language acquisition though subject content instruction and social interaction in the language of Spanish.
Scope:
The position is multifaceted in that the individual takes on the tasks of another staff member who is absent. As a substitute, this person is in constant contact with children, school staff, parents, and church staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
Model Christ in word and deed while:
  • Assisting the teacher in teaching Spanish as second language and the important aspects of Spanish culture.
  • Serve as interpreter/document translator for teachers and administrative staff who need to communicate with parents who are Spanish speakers.
  • Interacting and teaching students with provided guidance from classroom teacher
  • Following CCA Staff regulations, guidelines and procedures
  • Providing a safe environment for kids
  • Assisting teachers with required tasks, duties, and class coverage
  • Must be proficient and fluent in both English and Spanish languages

Qualifications/Skills/Gifts:
  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish and English (able to pass a proficiency test)..
  • A strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ
  • A strong commitment to the philosophies and mission of Calvary Chapel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and communicate with children
  • Ability to multi-task and become easily oriented
  • The ability to be "with it" and monitor groups of children with a positive disciplinary approach
  • Ability to be flexible and open to coming at the last minute and filling the gap where needs are evident
  • A servant's heart for Christ and His children
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
