THIS POSITION IS ON CALL -FLEXIBILE SCHEDULE WITH SATURDAY AVAILABILITY IS REQUIRED
JOB SUMMARY
Weighs vehicles and charges and collects appropriate payment of fees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) months of experience in a closely related field emphasizing card and cash handling, balancing, and customer service.
Preference for experience with point-of-sale software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Uses scale and ticketing system to weigh incoming loads and charge customers appropriately.
  • Identifies hazardous, unauthorized, or unacceptable waste. Monitors radiation detectors for high readings.
  • Coordinates activities with Environmental Manager and Inspectors to admit only permissible materials.
  • Prepares daily cash reports.
  • Prepares daily reports for inbound and outbound customer traffic.
  • Performs accurate cash handling duties.
  • Directs vehicles to scales to expedite the flow of traffic.
  • Answers customer inquiries and provides information related to landfill operations and various types of waste.
  • Provides instruction to customers on proper disposal of various waste materials.
  • Performs data entry duties to maintain vehicle and document files related to customer accounts.
  • Assists with ensuring safe and efficient operation of the scales.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
  • Computer software related to job-specific duties
  • General business transactions
  • Cash register and cash drawer operations, including change-making
  • Customer service and public relations
  • Directing traffic/flagging

Skills and Abilities to:
  • Operate a personal computer, general office equipment, 2-way radios, telephones, and point of sale software
  • Work cooperatively, courteously, and positively with co-workers and the public
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy during high traffic conditions
  • Communicate and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Accurately calculate weight and pricing costs in event of electronic scale and software failure

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work in a climate-controlled scale house with dust, noise, and vehicles fumes.
