Job description

About Barstow, TX

Barstow offers a quiet West Texas lifestyle with a significantly lower cost of living than most U.S. metropolitan areas. The small community sits within the broader Permian Basin region, one of the country's most active energy and industrial corridors, providing access to employment opportunities across energy, infrastructure, and technical services. Housing costs remain well below national averages, making the area an affordable option for professionals seeking long-term stability. For those who value a slower pace of life while remaining connected to one of Texas's key economic regions, Barstow provides a practical and cost-effective place to live and work.

Position Overview

The Data Center Deployment Technician I is an entry-level role ideal for candidates with 0-1 year of experience looking to start a career in data centers. This position is primarily responsible for labeling fiber optic and copper cables and performing basic Quality Control / Quality Assurance checks limited to labeling accuracy and cable condition.

Technicians in this role work under direct supervision and follow established client and TDS standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately label fiber optic and copper cables according to client standards, drawings, and project requirements.
  • Verify cable IDs, rack locations, and labeling consistency at both ends of the cable.
  • Perform QC/QA checks to confirm:
  • Labels are correct, legible, and properly placed.
  • Cables show no visible damage, breaks, kinks, or compromised jackets during labeling.
  • Identify and report labeling discrepancies or visible cable damage to project leadership.
  • Assist with updating labeling documentation, checklists, and redlines as required.
  • Follow all site safety requirements and wear required PPE.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support project timelines and client standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-1 years of experience in a data center, cabling, or technical environment (experience preferred but not required).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow labeling standards and instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, structured environment.
  • Comfortable working in data centers, including raised floors and equipment aisles.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.

Preferred (Not Required):

  • Exposure to fiber optic or copper cabling.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Military, trade school, or technical training background.

Why Join TDS?

  • Entry-level opportunity with hands-on data center experience.
  • Clear growth path within deployment and project teams.
  • On-the-job training and mentorship.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale, enterprise data center projects.
