General Statement
The Auxiliary Services departments (University Student Housing, Culinary Services, Sports Facilities, and Strand Union),Facilities Services, and the Student Wellness Center are responsible for maintenance and custodial of the facilities they manage.
Duties and Responsibilities
Custodians provide cleaning and maintenance services for MSU.
Primary emphasis is on:
  • Cleaning areas (including restrooms)
  • Carpeted and hard-surface floor care
  • Trash removal
  • Room set-ups, moving and placing of furniture of varying sizes and weights
  • Other related duties

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
All relevant education and experience that you submit in your application will be considered.
  1. Experience with custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, etc.
  2. Experience working effectively with minimal or no supervision.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Experience providing excellent customer service.
  2. Certifications, classes completed, or knowledge of safety procedures utilized in a custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping position.

  • Move, transport and place items of various shapes and sizes such as residence hall furniture, class room furniture, office furniture, special event equipment, stacking or unstacking chairs, folding tables, setting up portable stages, carrying floor sealer, boxes custodial equipment, etc.
  • Moving up and down stairs.
  • Moving up and down ladders.
  • Stationary or moving about for extended periods of time.
  • Gripping handles on cleaning equipment.
  • Regular exposure to cleaning solutions.
