Job description

Logging Geologist – Contract Position
Geotemps, Inc. is seeking an experienced Logging Geologist to support an exploration and development drilling campaign for a gold mining project in Tooele County, Utah. This contract opportunity is ideal for a geologist with strong RC chip logging experience and a background working with Carlin-type gold deposits.
Position Overview
The Logging Geologist will support ongoing reverse circulation (RC) drilling activities, providing accurate and timely geological logging and data collection. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and documenting lithology, alteration, oxidation, and mineralization while maintaining high standards for geological data quality and safety.
The project currently has two RC drill rigs operating on day shift, with additional rigs potentially being added based on project requirements. Each rig is averaging approximately 250 feet of drilling per day.
Location
Tooele County, Utah
The project’s drilling and logging operations are based at the historic Mercur Mine site. The facility provides dedicated logging and office areas, as well as power and internet/phone communications.
The project site is approximately 25 miles or a 35-minute drive from Tooele, Utah, via paved roads to the Mercur gate. Lodging and other services are available in Tooele.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed geological logging of a minimum of 500 feet of RC drill chips per day.
  • Identify and document lithology, oxidation states, alteration assemblages, and mineralization.
  • Recognize and accurately record alteration including silicification, argillization, and other relevant alteration types.
  • Identify and document sulfide mineralization and other indicators of gold mineralization.
  • Conduct detailed RC chip logging in accordance with project geological standards.
  • Prepare representative drill chip trays for each interval.
  • Capture and maintain high-quality wet and dry chip photographs for geological records and quality control.
  • Enter and maintain accurate geological data using Seequent MX Deposit or equivalent digital logging software.
  • Maintain consistent and accurate geological records and ensure data quality.
  • Communicate effectively with the project geology and drilling teams regarding geological observations and drilling progress.
  • Follow all company, project, and site-specific health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain strict compliance with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a closely related field.
  • 3–5 years of geological logging experience, preferably with direct experience in Carlin-type gold deposits.
  • Demonstrated experience with reverse circulation (RC) chip logging.
  • Strong ability to identify lithology, alteration, oxidation, and mineralization in RC drill samples.
  • Experience with Seequent MX Deposit or comparable digital geological logging software.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate geological data collection.
  • Ability to work effectively in a field-based mining and exploration environment.
  • Ability to work safely and comply with MSHA and project-specific safety requirements.
