Temporary Consulting information

What is temporary consulting?

Temporary consulting refers to short-term professional advisory services provided by experts, often hired on a project basis or for a limited period. These consultants offer specialized skills or knowledge to help organizations solve specific problems, implement new systems, or manage transitions. Temporary consultants typically work independently or through consulting firms and may be engaged for anything from a few days to several months, depending on the client's needs. This arrangement allows companies to access expertise without the commitment of a long-term hire.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Consultant, you need strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and relevant industry knowledge, often supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field. Familiarity with project management tools, data analysis software, and sometimes certifications like PMP or Lean Six Sigma can be valuable. Excellent communication, adaptability, and time management are crucial soft skills to quickly integrate with diverse teams and deliver results within tight deadlines. These skills and qualifications ensure that temporary consultants can provide immediate value to clients and effectively solve business challenges in dynamic environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in temporary consulting roles, and how can they be addressed?

Temporary consulting professionals often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new organizational cultures, understanding client expectations, and managing tight project deadlines. Success in these roles requires strong adaptability, effective communication, and the ability to rapidly build relationships with diverse teams. To address these challenges, consultants should prioritize active listening, clarify project goals early, and remain flexible in their approach. Proactively seeking feedback and staying organized also helps ensure a smooth and productive consulting engagement.

Job description

Global HR Consultant
Accelerate Performance.
About CAI Software
CAI Software builds purpose-built solutions that help manufacturers, processors, and distributors accelerate performance. Our mission is to enable manufacturers to transform performance through a connected, AI-assisted ecosystem that delivers visibility, control, and continuous improvement. We bring the deep operational expertise and enterprise infrastructure to be a true long-term performance partner.
With 6,200+ active customers worldwide and a market-leading position in every vertical we serve, CAI combines 45+ years of industry expertise with modern AI-driven execution - helping businesses move faster, operate smarter, and perform at their peak. We work across 15+ industries and 10+ countries, guided by three values built into our name: Candor, Accountability, and Impact.
CAI Business Units and the Markets We Serve
CAI Software is organized into three business units: Graphic Communications, Process Manufacturing, and Discrete Manufacturing - aligned to the industries we serve. This structure keeps our teams close to customer needs while operating with the scale and support of a global software company.
Shared Services
This role is part of our Shared Services organization, which includes the functions that support all three CAI business units. This model enables deep industry focus at the BU level while delivering the scale, expertise, and operational strength of one unified company.
About the Role
CAI Software is hiring a temporary Global HR Consultant for a 6-month engagement to serve as a strategic partner to the CHRO - someone equally comfortable shaping people strategy in the room and rolling up their sleeves to get it done. A successful candidate will have experience guiding a Global HR Team and organization experiencing a global transformation in a mid-sized, global PE-backed organization and experience in M&A and Integration activities.
This role will lead the HR function's portfolio of strategic priorities - from scaling talent acquisition and onboarding to modernizing core HR operations and technology. The Global HR Consultant will champion the responsible adoption of AI across HR, drive organizational and policy simplification, and oversee workforce planning.
In partnership with the Global HR team, this role also leads the standardization of key HR processes, invests in employee training and development, and leads the build-out of next-generation employee and manager self-service platforms that elevate the HR experience company-wide.
You'll move fluidly between partnering with the CHRO on strategic direction and personally driving execution - building the plan, then doing the work to deliver it, while guiding and providing guidance to the Global HR team, in partnership with the CHRO to deliver.
What You'll Do
Strategic Partnership
  • Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the CHRO, helping translate broader business strategy into a coherent, prioritized HR agenda
  • Represent the CHRO in cross-functional forums and initiatives, ensuring HR's priorities are reflected and well-executed
  • Provide regular visibility into program status, risks, and progress across the HR portfolio for executive stakeholders

Program Leadership & Execution
  • Personally lead and drive execution across a portfolio of concurrent HR initiatives, balancing strategic oversight with direct, hands-on involvement
  • Scale talent acquisition and onboarding programs to support organizational growth
  • Drive workforce planning efforts, ensuring the organization is resourced appropriately and efficiently

HR Operations & Process
  • Lead the standardization of core HR processes, policies, and documentation to improve consistency, compliance, and scalability
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies in existing HR operations

Talent & Workforce Development
  • Design and invest in employee training and development programs that build organizational capability
  • Partner with business leaders to identify skill gaps and build solutions to close them

Technology & Innovation
  • Champion the responsible adoption of AI across HR functions, identifying practical use cases that improve efficiency, employee experience, as well as Talent Strategy in an AI-driven organization.
  • Lead the build-out of next-generation employee and manager self-service platforms

What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience within complex, multi-site, global organizations, including exposure to both strategic HR leadership and hands-on program delivery
  • 5+ years leading HR teams and/or HR Business Partner functions across multiple locations or regions.
  • Experience within a Software as a Service and Private Equity organization
  • Experience supporting global operations and navigating diverse employment practices, cultures, and regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at multiple altitudes - equally effective setting strategy and executing the details
  • Experience supporting or partnering closely with senior HR or business executives
  • Strong track record leading cross-functional HR initiatives from concept through execution
  • Familiarity with modern HR technology and a genuine interest and/or experience in applying AI/automation to HR operations
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to excel strategically, operationally, and tactically.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion, including with confidential and sensitive workforce matters
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to flex between executive-level narrative and ground-level detail
  • Proven experience leading integraton in an M&A environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Chief of Staff, HR Business Partner, or HR Consultant capacity supporting a CHRO or senior HR leader
  • Background in organizational design, policy simplification, or HR process standardization
  • Exposure to workforce planning that spans both employee and contingent/contractor populations
  • Experience contributing to or leading employee/manager self-service technology rollouts
