Job description

Job Title: Structural Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Engineer with a strong structural engineering, particularly with existing buildings. The ideal candidate will possess an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and have the ability to draft and design structural projects, coupled with excellent technical report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections of existing buildings and structures, including parking garages, balconies, decks, roofs, façades, windows, and site improvements.
  • Identify, document, and assess structural deficiencies, deterioration, construction defects, and maintenance-related issues.
  • Collect field data, photographs, measurements, and observations to determine the probable causes of failures and develop practical repair recommendations.
  • Develop repair concepts and remediation solutions for existing structures, prepare repair details, construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Assist with structural evaluations, rehabilitation designs, and coordinate with engineers on complex investigations and repair projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and related design software to produce construction documents.
  • Assist with contractor bidding and selection processes, conduct pre-construction meetings and site walkthroughs.
  • Perform construction observations throughout active repair projects and review contractor work for compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate directly with contractors, clients, and property managers during construction.
  • Prepare clear, detailed engineering reports documenting findings and recommendations, supported by photographs, sketches, and technical documentation.
  • Communicate investigative findings and repair recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Work directly with property managers, condominium associations, commercial property owners, contractors, and attorneys.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, serving as a trusted technical resource throughout the investigation, design, and construction process.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • 4-10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Structural Design experience using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, structural systems, and construction practices.
  • Experience performing site inspections and condition assessments.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate deterioration, deficiencies, and construction defects in existing structures.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey.
  • Ability to work outdoors and access active construction and inspection sites, including rooftops, elevated structures, scaffolding, ladders, and aerial lifts while utilizing appropriate fall protection and personal safety equipment when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Structural engineering experience as compared to other engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with parking garage inspections and rehabilitation.
  • Experience with condominium/community association properties.
  • Building envelope, façade, waterproofing, roofing, or restoration consulting experience.
  • Knowledge of pavement systems, drainage, and sports court construction.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Working knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) software.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or demonstrated path toward PE licensure.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Summit, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $57.69/hr.
