Position Summary:

The acute care medical and surgical department at Brockville General Hospital includes 2 inpatient unit. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse is at the core of the team providing excellence in care. The medical surgical department team includes, Hospitalists, Internal Medicine, Surgeons, Physician Assistants, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy services, 24/7 Critical Care Outreach Team, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathology, Dietician, Social Work, Unit Clerk, Personal Support Workers, and after hours administrative supervisors, all working closely with the Program Manager.

A medium sized community remote hospital, focused on patient and family cantered care, working at Brockville General Hospital offers opportunity for government funded student loan forgives program and includes a level 3 ICU, Emergency Department, Labour & Delivery, Surgical Services Department, Stroke and Rehab care, Mental Health inpatient unit as well as other outpatient clinics

The Registered Nurse is expected to maintain competence and skills through on-going participation in continuing education, including in-house BCLS and ACLS training and will be able to demonstrate proof of such participation.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Valid BCLS and maintained throughout employment period
  • Preference will be given to those with current medical/surgical experience, I.V. Therapy, Telemetry
  • Computer literacy and teaching experience would be an asset

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent assessment, critical thinking, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Provision of care for patients within an inter-professional environment, including assessment, treatment, teaching and education,
  • Good attendance and availability required
  • Teaching and coaching to patients and families,
  • Maintains documentation records in accordance with College of Nurses Standards,
  • Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures
  • Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policy and procedures, professional regulatory standards and best practices within the nursing profession,
  • Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annul training and education as indicated,
  • Participates in unit/dept. and hospital quality improvement initiatives,
  • Adapts and adheres to the values of BGH while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience.
