Job Summary
We seek highly motivated student pursing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other relevant areas of study to help support data governance within the University Analytics and Institutional Reporting (UAIR) department. This opportunity will focus on data management, data governance, and reporting. The position will focus on expanding and enhancing existing code to collect, process, and integrate external data sources into institutional systems.
Skill Development
This is a project oriented internship that will provide hands-on experience in data engineering, automation, and data governance practices. Students will gain experience working with structured and semi-structured data, as well as exposure to institutional analytics workflows. The following are some of the skills that may be developed through different data governance projects:
• Develop and enhance web scraping solutions to collect data from external sources
• Clean, transform, and integrate data into relational databases
• Work with scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL) to automate data workflows
• Understand and apply data governance principles, including data definition standardization and metadata management
• Troubleshoot and maintain data pipelines and ingestion processes
There may be other tools or processes touched on throughout the internships. The following are some examples of the skills that may be developed and utilized within this internship:
• Project management,
• Advanced relevant programming skills (i.e. Python, SQL, etc.)
• Data visualization development
Responsibilities
  • The primary responsibility of this role will be to support and enhance processes that collect and integrate external data into institutional systems. This includes working with existing code to automate the extraction, transformation, and loading of data and definitions into a centralized database.
  • The position will help improve data consistency and alignment between internal and external reporting, supporting data governance efforts and laying the groundwork for future analysis, while providing hands-on technical experience in a real-world environment.

  • Ability to work independently with light to moderate supervision in various areas of responsibility.
  • Excellent problem-solving including research, error detection and correction, root cause analysis, conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills
