Overview
**This is a temporary/seasonal position.**
Position is responsible for assisting the Communications Division with public outreach, communication and marketing efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communication, public relations and marketing while working for municipal government.
Position Responsibilities
Updates and maintains DPW's social media presence, including Facebook and Twitter updates.
Assists in planning, writing and editing quarterly eNewsletter.
Drafts, distributes and pitches news releases and media alert.
Designs flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material for public meetings and other events hosted by DPW.
Updates the DPW websites when needed.
Attends weekly communication meetings and participate in discussions.
Reaches out to community groups, Mayor's Neighborhood Liaisons, constituents regarding DPW projects and initiatives.
Collaborates with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications.
Assists in event coordination and presentation preparation.

Qualifications
Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space. Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations). Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus. Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired, but not required. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design is a plus. Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a professional manner with media, constituents and key stakeholders. Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines. Strong belief in a collaborative work environment, continuing education and professional development
