Job description

Overview

The Contractor Escort supports the Office of Capital Projects by providing required escort services for outside contractors working within Princeton University facilities. This role helps safeguard campus safety, security, and property integrity while enabling construction, maintenance, and renovation activities during the summer period.

Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, Project Manager, and/or Construction Manager, the Contractor Escort serves as a visible and dependable representative of Facilities, demonstrating professionalism, discretion, and a strong commitment to customer service.

This position is temporary. 

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a daily contractor activity log (hard copy or electronic):
    • Submit completed daily logs to the Office of Capital Projects administrator as directed by management
  • Perform required knock-and-entry protocols prior to contractor access, including:
    • Audible announcements
    • Verification of vacancy
  • Conduct pre- and post-service space inspections to verify:
    • No personal or University belongings were removed
    • Any relocated items were returned to their original location
    • Work areas are clean, orderly, and free of debris
  • Complete and leave a University Service Hang Tag detailing service performed and relevant contact information
  • Punchlist support for Capital projects
    • Site walkthroughs to ensure completion and test installations
    • Track areas surveyed and tested on spreadsheet in shared database
Qualifications

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Effective organizational and time-management abilities

  • Professional and courteous interaction with University staff, vendors, contractors, architects, and consultants

  • Sound judgment, situational awareness, and basic problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Ability to successfully pass a background check

  • Posess a valid driver's license to drive a golf cart

  • Completion of Department of Public Safety Contractor Escort Training

  • Availability to work Monday-Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (with occasional weekends and holidays as needed)

  • Availability from Wednesday, May 27 through the end of August (end date flexible based on academic schedules)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior construction, facilities, or building operations experience

  • Education or coursework related to construction, engineering, architecture, or facilities management
