Job description

Position Title: Tax Accountant
Location: Dover, DE 19901

Summary:
The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records for affiliated organizations. This role includes the development and submission of annual budgets, tracking billing data, preparing tax filings such as 990s, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and current tax regulations. The Tax Accountant also supervises support staff and contributes to organizational financial planning and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and review tax filings (Forms 990 and 1120) in collaboration with the Controller/CFO, ensuring timely submission.

  2. Record journal entries, review financial reports for accuracy, and document findings.

  3. Produce monthly financial statements for affiliated entities.

  4. Develop and finalize budgets for related organizations at least two months before the fiscal year-end and prior to the annual board meeting.

  5. Accurately complete and file all employee benefit returns (5500s) in alignment with auditor schedules.

  6. Oversee the Related Corporations Specialist, conduct annual performance reviews, and ensure timely and accurate task completion.

  7. Conduct research on GAAP procedures relevant to affiliated entities and provide documentation within designated timelines.

  8. Reconcile assigned accounts monthly and post correcting entries as needed.

  9. Stay updated on current tax regulations, FASB updates, and not-for-profit accounting standards including Form 990 guidelines.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of this role.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (Required)

  • Experience: Minimum of three years in accounting, including tax filing and financial statement preparation, preferably in a healthcare environment

  • Preferred:

    • Master's Degree in a related field

    • CPA certification

    • Five or more years of general accounting experience

    • Familiarity with hospital accounting and tax preparation in both for-profit and nonprofit settings
